What is the ApplyRight AI mock interview?

ApplyRight's AI mock interview is a free, voice-based practice interview for a specific job: paste the job description, the AI interviewer picks the 3–6 topics that job is really about, asks you one question at a time out loud, follows up on what you actually said, and ends with a scored report per topic, an overall readiness verdict, and how you compare with other candidates who practised for the same role. You answer by speaking — your browser turns your voice into text, and only the words are sent, never the audio.

How it works

  1. 1

    Paste the job description

Any role, any company. The interviewer reads the JD together with your uploaded resume and derives the must-have topics — Python, system design, stakeholder management, whatever that job is about — each with a weight.

  2. 2

    Answer out loud

Questions are read aloud. Tap the mic, speak your answer as you would in the real interview, and the transcript appears as you talk. Vague or unquantified answers get a follow-up that references what you said.

  3. 3

    Get a scored report

Per-topic scores and verdicts, category scores (role knowledge, communication, problem solving, job fit), strengths, improvements, a readiness verdict for this job and an anonymous comparison with other candidates.

Why candidates use it

Adaptive, not a fixed question bank

There is no list of canned questions. The interviewer decides after every answer whether to dig deeper on the same topic or move on — up to two follow-ups per topic, within a 5–15 question budget.

Voice first, typing as fallback

Practise speaking, because that is what the real interview tests. Browsers without speech recognition can type instead; the feedback is identical.

Grounded in your resume

Questions are tailored to your background and checked against it — the same resume you uploaded for job matching and autofill.

Compare with other candidates

See where you stand against others who practised for the same posting or the same kind of role — aggregates only, nobody sees your answers.

Private by design

Your microphone audio never leaves the browser. Only the recognised words are sent, and sessions are kept for 90 days so you can review your progress.

Human mentors when you want them

Warm up with the AI, then book a 60-minute mock interview with a senior engineer or PM from Amazon, Google, Microsoft or Uber.

Built for these interviews

  • Software engineer interviews — backend, frontend, full stack, mobile, DevOps and SRE loops
  • Data scientist, data engineer and machine learning engineer interviews
  • Product manager and product designer interviews
  • Fresher and campus placement interviews, including HR and behavioural rounds
  • Company-specific preparation for Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Uber, Adobe, Atlassian and 100+ employers
  • Rehearsing a specific job posting the night before the real call

Company interview guides

Read how the loop works at a specific company, then rehearse it with the AI interviewer using a real posting.

Most interview practice tools hand you a generic question bank. ApplyRight's AI mock interview starts from the job you are actually applying for: paste the job description and the interviewer plans an evaluation around the skills that posting demands, weighted by how much the role depends on them. A backend role at a payments company gets probed on API design, SQL and distributed systems; a product role gets product sense, prioritisation and stakeholder stories.

Because you answer out loud, you rehearse the thing that actually fails in interviews — structuring a spoken answer under mild pressure, quantifying impact, and explaining trade-offs. The interviewer listens for exactly that: if an answer is short, it asks for a concrete example; if it has no numbers, it asks you to quantify; if there is no outcome, it asks what happened. Strong answers move you to the next topic.

The report is written for one job, not in the abstract. You see each topic with a score and a verdict, category scores for role knowledge, communication, problem solving and job fit, concrete strengths and improvements, a readiness verdict for that posting, and — once enough candidates have practised for the same role — where you rank against them. Combine it with ApplyRight's company job pages, resume-ranked discovery and one-click apply, and the whole loop from finding the role to walking into the interview lives in one place.

AI mock interview FAQ

What is an AI mock interview?

An AI mock interview is a practice interview run by an AI interviewer for one specific job. On ApplyRight you paste the job description, the AI derives the topics that job evaluates, asks questions out loud one at a time, follows up on your answers, and produces a scored feedback report with per-topic verdicts and a readiness verdict.

Can I try it without signing up?

Yes. The free voice interview at applyright.co.in/ai-interview/try runs entirely in your browser without an account: pick a role, answer out loud and get a scored report. Signing in adds your resume, the real job description, longer interviews and your history.

Is the AI mock interview free?

Yes. The free plan includes AI mock interviews every day (currently 2 per day), plus company job discovery and one-click apply. Pro raises the daily limits. Human mock interviews with mentors are booked separately at ₹499 per 60-minute session.

Do I have to speak, or can I type my answers?

Voice is the default because real interviews are spoken. In Chrome, Edge and Safari your browser transcribes your voice locally and shows the words as you talk; you can fix the transcript before sending it. If your browser has no speech recognition, or you prefer it, you can type instead.

Is my voice recorded?

No. Speech recognition runs in your browser and only the recognised words — the transcript — are sent to ApplyRight, together with the recogniser confidence and how long you spoke. No audio is uploaded or stored.

How are answers scored?

Each topic from the job description carries a weight. After every answer the interviewer scores the current topic 0–100 on specificity, outcomes, reasoning and fit with the role, and decides whether to follow up. The final report combines topic scores into an overall score, category scores, strengths, improvements and a readiness verdict ("ready", "close" or "prepare more").

Which roles and companies can I practise for?

Any role you have a job description for — software engineer, data scientist, product manager, designer, analyst, fresher or senior — at any company. Pair it with the company interview guides for Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Uber, Adobe and Atlassian.

How is this different from a human mock interview?

The AI interview is instant, repeatable and free: use it to rehearse a specific posting as many times as you like. Human mock interviews on ApplyRight are 60-minute sessions with senior engineers and PMs who have cleared top-company loops and give nuanced, experience-based feedback. Most candidates use the AI to warm up and a mentor before the real loop.

Do I need to upload a resume first?

Yes — the interviewer grounds its questions in your resume and the job description, so it can probe claims you make and check fit. It is the same resume upload used for job matching and application autofill.
